How we built our machine learning model
How do you develop and successfully implement a machine learning model as a small company with minimal resources? This is the story of how BetterNow developed and implemented - 'The Fundraiser Coach'.
Your supporters are busy with their day-to-day life. They don’t have time to go through a fundraising manual when the kids are screaming and they have tight work deadlines. So we give them the one most important thing that they can do to improve their fundraising page.

The fundraising page becomes more personal with a profile image.
This will help the supporter fundraise more.
Self-donations shows commitment and increases trust and confidence in the fundraising page.
Longer (but not too long) descriptions perform better than short descriptions. It gives donors more context.
We can spot when description is close to the default set by you. A more personal description is better.
BetterNow have developed its own machine learning model so we can give personalised and individual recommendations for your fundraisers. We call this The Fundraiser Coach.
We find that one action that a supporter needs to take in order to fundraise the most.
The result: your supporters fundraise 36% more!
From each fundraiser we collect over 30 data-points including donations received, website activity, fundraising activities and fundraising history.
The predictions are based on a regression model built with over 10 years of fundraising data.
The model comes with suggestions for which action that will have the biggest likelihood of improving the fundraising result. The model picks one recommendation to highlight.

As the fundraiser moves along their fundraising journey, we re-run the model and come up with new updated recommendations for the fundraiser.
